Faculty Development Coordinator

In 2023, I transitioned to a new role as the Faculty Development Coordinator at the University of Florida, Gainesville. This role has allowed me to take my 30+ years in K12 education and 15+ years in higher education to the next level. It provides professional development around best practice strategies in teaching and learning. Job responsibilities include providing both face-to-face and online workshops around best practices, supporting faculty in their journey through Research in Teaching and Learning, facilitating First Year Faculty Teaching Academy, and co-facilitating faculty learning communities - like Harnessing Artificial Intelligence, and Artificial Intelligence in the SEC through Auburn University. This position connects my love of teaching and educational technology.

Educational Technology Consultant & AdvocateAs an instructional technology consultant with Macomb Intermediate School District, I had the privilege of working across 21 school districts with 10,000 teachers and 130,000 students. My tenure there provided me with overwhelming opportunities to grow my professional practice.
As co-creator of the 21things Project, these free online spaces connects educators to resources that support teaching and learning. The 21things4 Project is home to 21things4educators, 21things4students, MITechKids, and 21things4administrators. The project was spearheaded in 2008 by myself along with three other REMC-RITS instructional technology specialists in Michigan – Frank Miracola, Carolyn McCarthy, and Melissa White. We were joined in 2011 by Jan Harding, and in 2020 by Kate Grunow. Supported by the resources of the REMC Association of Michigan and the founding organizations (Macomb ISD, Shiawassee RESD, Ingham ISD), the project is now internationally known and has earned two ISTE Seal of Alignments. In Michigan, I have been a part of the Michigan Department of Education's MITecs Standards committee, working to align Michigan EdTech to the ISTE Standards. As part of the First Class of ISTE Certification, I traveled to Arlington, VA to dive deeper into the ISTE Educator Standards. I continue to work with ISTE on Certification, creating courses in ISTEU, and consulting on various projects. Developer of Online LearningAs a co-facilitator of our MISD Online Learning series, we have had over 6,000+ teachers enrolled, and is now available on YouTube and self-paced modules across multiple learning management systems.
As a co-facilitator of the Macomb Academy for Blended Learning, our core team provides support for elementary, middle, and high school educators working to blend their classrooms. Leading by example, our facilitation of MADE includes an online course, several face-to-face sessions, and instructional coaching, ending the two year program with Capstone Night for sharing success stories. I have written several modules for the online course, including Assessment & Evaluation, Research & Reference, and Creating Interactive, Personalized & Engaging Learning. As a grant recipient, I served as the State Project Lead for the MISchoolData portal. I was responsible for leading a network of over 600 educators who provide professional development on the state data portal. I created over 30 online courses, including facilitator guides, slide decks, learning activities, webinars/videos, and online modules. My responsibilities included travel and presentations to PK-20 stakeholders/organizations, working with an advisory committee, maintaining a budget, and providing technical updates and reports per grant requirements. |
Adjunct ProfessorWorking with educators is my passion, and my career has provided me with several avenues to share my love for digital age teaching and learning. As an Adjunct Professor with Central Michigan University, I teach EDU 590 - Educational Foundations in Learning, Design and Technology and the EDU 710 - Capstone in Learning, Design and Technology. In addition, I have also taught EDU 653 (Higher Order, Web Mediated Learning), EDU 709 (Innovative Uses of Technology), and EDU 595 (Digital Media Literacy for Educators). My goal is to create and deliver online content in an interactive format that models good instructional delivery. Presenter and HonoreeFacilitating over 200 events per year in online learning can lead to a pretty busy schedule. From online webinars to statewide conference events to networking and sharing across an international EdTech network, I am always advocating for empowering educators with technology.
In 2018 I was honored to receive the ISTE Award for Oustanding Leadership. I've also had some great experiences, including serving on various ISTE Panels and projects (Seal of Alignment, Administrator Standards Refresh, Credentialing and Certification). I have presented many revenue producing pre-conference and conference workshops. Examples include "Tech Ready & Beyond: Engaged Learning & Interactive Assessment" at ISTE, as well as "Empowering Learners through Digital Age, Project Based Learning" at the Midwest American Conference on Personalized Learning. My ISTE experience also includes IGNITE presenter at the Closing Keynote for the ISTE 2017 Conference. Author & Continuous Improvement FacilitatorAs an Executive Board Member on the Michigan Continuous Improvement Facilitators Network, I facilitated virtual trainings and create and maintained online materials and resources to support training and facilitation across Michigan. As the co-author of the "Data Reference Manual for Michigan's Continuous School Improvement Process" (multiple editions), I have been on many state level committees charged with training educators on how to use data to inform instruction. I served as a school improvement facilitator and presented regularly at the "Facilitators of School Improvement" series.
